The Angolan consulate in Washington has closed as a result of the US authorities closing the Angolan Embassy’s bank account in a row over money laundering regulations. The Angolans may need to close the consulates in Houston, New York and their mission to the United Nations for the same reasons.
37 diplomatic missions in the US have had their accounts closed. The deepening row means that US citizens are not able to obtain visas for Angola from the consulate. The Angolan Ambassador to the US has been recalled to Luanda for consultations and according to this news report (in Portuguese), the Angolans may take reciprocal actions affecting the US Embassy and multi national companies operating in Angola.
