Benguela railroad in Angola partially reopens after 27-year stoppage

At  the end of August, President dos Santos inaugurated the repaired train service linking Benguela, Lobito and Huambo. The rail service had been interrupted since 2002. Repairs began in 2006. In order to reach Luau in 2012 , a further 347kms of track will need to be repaired. Ticket and timetable details are not yet known but a ticket between Lobito and Benguela is understood to cost 30 Kwanzas compared to 150 Kwanzas travelling by taxi.
