Há vida na Kissama

Às 6 horas do último Sábado do mês de Fevereiro,  partimos nós para a expedição Kissama, realizada pela Eco-Tur de Mário Pinto e Paul Wesson (nosso guia durante  o passeio).

O passeio, é destinado a todos os interessados em conhecer melhor um dos  principais pontos turísticos angolanos.

Muitos são os expatriados que alinham nesta aventura. “As pessoas aproveitam  para conhecer Angola, para ver que o país tem belezas naturais únicas”, frisou  Paul Wesson no inicio da nossa viagem.

Gone Fishing in Angola

As Angola’s sport ­fishing reputation spreads to Europe, tour  operators hope its newfound fame will help reel in other ­tourists too.

After years of isolation following nearly three decades of civil war, Angola is becoming a hot destination for anglers. Angolan angling is already popular among Southern Africans, but Paul Wesson, who founded his company Eco Tur in 2005, says the country has begun to attract tourists from Europe.

“There is a high level of expertise here in Angola, particularly in the area of competitive big game fishing,” explains Wesson. “There is also good tarpon and threadfin fishing available at the Kwanza River mouth.”

From November to April, large numbers of tarpon – a prized catch among sport fishermen – are found in the Kwanza, just south of Luanda. In ­August, shoals of Atlantic threadfin visit the lower reaches of the river.
Other Angolan hotspots include Kalandula Falls in Malanje Province, unspoilt wildlife parks, the mysterious rock formations of Pedras Negras and the Namib desert that straddles the border with Namibia. More……

Nasce a primeira cria da palanca negra gigante, após redescoberta da espécie em Angola

A primeira cria das Palancas Negras isoladas no Santuário (zona vedada de 400 hectares), do Parque Nacional da Cangandala, Província de Malange, já nasceu, informou o Engenheiro Florestal e Biólogo Pedro Vaz Pinto, em entrevista exclusiva a RTP África, recentemente.

Pedro Vaz Pinto, disse que, a tão esperada cria nasceu em Junho de 2010, e há dados não muito certos, mas que indicam já o nascimento de uma segunda cria. Mais……

Parque Nacional da Cangandala um paraíso inexplorado

A reportagem deste jornal procurava nesta visita, que se revelou depois uma verdadeira odisseia, relatar a vida animal no Parque da Cangandala e, quiçá, trazer retratos fotográficos dos animais exclusivos da fauna angolana.

Dada por praticamente extinta, a Palanca Negra Gigante ressurgiu, na verdade, com o alcance da paz, através de um esforço do Governo, que disponibilizou fundos para a sua localização e circunscrevê-la num santuário onde pudesse ser acompanhado todo o seu processo de reprodução e manter viva a espécime única. O reencontro com o animal pode também considerar-se um ganho da paz.

Também era propósito ver até que ponto há o estímulo de visitas a este importante parque, já que abundam curiosos por avistar a grande mascote e orgulho de instituições como a selecção nacional sénior de futebol e a companhia aérea de bandeira, a TAAG. Leia mais…….

Animais regressam ao Parque Nacional da Cameia

 Cameia – Várias especieis de animais que tinham fugido do Parque Nacional da Cameia, localizado na província do Moxico, estão a regressar ao seu habitat natural, informou hoje à Angop, o administrador do respectivo parque, Henriques José dos Santos.
A fonte explicou que animais como Quelengues, Palancas e Leões, entre outros, que durante o conflito armado atravessaram a fronteira rumo as Repúblicas da Zâmbia, Botswana e Zimbabwe, estão a regressar em manadas. Henriques dos Santos louvou o comportamento dos caçadores furtivos que não estão abater os animais de forma indiscriminada.

Apontou como principais dificuldades a falta de fiscais para a cobertura dos mais de 14 mil e 450 quilómetros quadrados. Com quatro postos fiscais, apenas existem 12 funcionários, número considerado muito ínfimo.

No Parque Nacional da Cameia existem animais como songues, núces, javalis, tungo, hienas e raposas. O Parque Nacional de Cameia definido como Reserva de Caça em 1937 e transformado em parque em 1957. O Parque está limitado a Leste pelo rio Zambeze, a Sul pelo rio Luena e a Oeste pela linha do Caminho-de-Ferro de Benguela (CFB), que o atravessa a Norte.

Grande parte do parque é constituída por planícies inundadas por grandes rios que fazem parte da bacia hidrográfica do Zambeze, tais como o Luena, Lumeji e o Chifumage.

Angolan minister confirms that the black sable antelope is breeding

Luanda – The Angolan Environment minister, Maria de Fátima Jardim, Friday in Luanda confirmed the birth of nine young black sable antelopes, in Luando Reserve, northern Malanje province.

The minister confirmed this while speaking at the opening ceremony of the first meeting of Supervising Committee for Conservation Project of Black Sable Antelope, during which she said that the referred species include a male and eight females.

Fantastic bird trip to Angola – October 2011

From the BirdQuest website: For birders, the current stability of Angola means that a wealth of mouth-watering specialities is now once more within reach. Our visit is timed at the end of the dry season, just before the hotter and wetter months begin. Angola has some of the least known and most interesting endemic birds in Africa, but the infrastructure of the country is still recovering from the long civil war and at the same time Angola is an extraordinarily expensive country, thanks to its new oil wealth. Good accommodations are limited, and we will have to camp at times. This length of itinerary is the tour duration our experience tells us is necessary both to find, rather than miss, the key specialities of the country and to keep the relative amount of time spent travelling within reasonable bounds (as Angolan roads are still very variable in quality, although rapidly improving thanks to all that oil money).

Wildlife Rises in Kissama Park, Angola

The wildlife in the Kissama National Park, Bengo province, has increased significantly following the controlled procreation of several species imported in 2001 from Botswana and South Africa, the park director told Angop today.

According to Roland Goetz the number of elephants rose from 35 to 64 and those of Zebras from 12 to 70 during the last nine years adding that 70 gnus, 100 gungas and 14 giraffes are controlled by the park’s administration.

He said the park has only 15 guards to control the large area bounded by the rivers Kwanza (north) and Longa (south) adding that more guards are necessary to better control its 1 million hectares.

The local fauna include african manatees, roans and sea turtles.

Crocodile alert in Massangano, Kwanza Norte

Following  the death of an 18 year old man on 19 October, the municipal authorities in Massangano, Kwanza Norte province  are alerting the public to the presence of a large number of crocodiles along the banks of the Lucala river.
